Uniting a FamilyThe house is located on the hillside near the interchange of the highway in Asahikawa. Beyond the highway, the mountain ranges rise, and it is a perfect location to feel every aspect of the seasons. We wanted the young owners and the family to enjoy this natural panorama, so we made windows on three sides of the living room. From the sofa, the overwhelming view of green is as if you are watching a wide screen film. The first floor is an open structure to create large space for the living room, the dining room and the kitchen. For the structural reasons, we used two pillars of Sakhalin fir, and unintentionally, they created wonderful atmosphere to the space. The carpentry kitchen is also one of the custom made entities of the house, and having complied with the wife’s suggestion that the stainless steel or white kitchen tops would stand out too much, as the walls were in dark colors, we adopted black kitchen top, and it was successfully fitting to the space. The completed house has a Western style as a base, but with the essence of Japanese added in, it creates a subdued modern Japanesque touch. It has a finish of quality, as the design and the workmanship were integrated. It turned out to be a suitable house for the sensitive young couple.Different Ways of Living for Different People055
